Natural Disasters in St Vincent and the Grenadines over the past Ten (10) Years Natural disasters have affected St. Vincent and the Grenadines in many ways. They have caused damage to people, livestock and property, and caused millions of dollars of losses to the island. Some of the natural disasters which affected SVG during the period 2007-2017 are: October 2008- Storm surge from Hurricane Omar greatly affected the western coast of the island. There was widespread flooding, significant erosion and destruction and damage to coastal property and businesses in the Kingstown areas, Central Leeward, East St. George and the Northern and Southern Grenadines. The Cruise Ship terminal building received significant damage and the businesses housed in the terminal were evacuated. Approximately 20 shops housed in the Bus Terminal in the area of Little Tokyo were destroyed from Storm Surge and several others were damaged from the flood waters.
